The Baytown Sculpture Trail continues for 2025 with a new juried exhibit of original outdoor sculptures displayed year-round in the Arts, Culture, and Entertainment (ACE) District in historic Downtown Baytown, Texas. The ACE District is a 501(c)3 organization purposed with promoting both cultural and economic expansion within the City of Baytown. Baytown is a suburb of Houston and the 5th largest city in Harris County with a population of around 82,000. Harris County itself is the 3rd largest county in the United States.
Up to twenty-five sculptures will be chosen for this exhibit. Artists may enter up to 5 pieces. The fee for the first two submissions is $25 each. If the artist choses to enter more than two artworks the fee for entries three through five will be $18 each. The call is open to professional and amateur sculptors of all backgrounds. The sculptures chosen to participate in the exhibit are owned by the artist and loaned to the exhibit for one year. The Sculpture Trail Jury will critique entries on artistic merit, creativity, durability, and public safety in an outdoor setting. All artists will be notified of the jurors’ decisions no later than November 23, 2024.
Each sculptor selected for this 12-month exhibition will receive a $1,500 honorarium per sculpture chosen. Sales of any work in the exhibition will be subject to a 25% commission. Additionally, exhibition sponsors will have the option of leasing the sculpture for display at their business location for an additional year. The 25% commission applies to the lease as well. We have had quite good success in selling and leasing our accepted artist's work. In each of the first two Baytown Sculpture Trail years we have sold at least 6 works and leased 5.
During the course of the exhibition we encourage Sculpture Trail visitors to vote for their favorite sculpture. These votes will be tabulated in early January and the artwork with the most People's Choice Award votes will receive $2,000. Additionally we will have a jury of independent artists chose a Best of Show in mid January. The artist of the selected sculpture will be awarded $1,000.
Each exhibition sculptor will receive 2 complimentary nights at a popular Baytown hotel for the reception. Should they choose, additional nights may be purchased at a discount.
